call me crazy.

but i enjoy going to the dentist. i enjoy even more getting my cheeks numbed up so he can go at my mouth with strange shiny tools. along with the comic relief that the awkward half smile provides, i am fascinated by how fat my lip feels when it's numb, and for some reason i love the challenge of eating afterwards while my mouth is out of sorts. i took on leftover pizza this time. i know, i know, i'm such a risk taker. pizza was also my first meal after getting my braces on years ago. chicken-noodle soup is strictly for the faint of heart. which i am not. clearly.

i also enjoy forced waiting. you know, the sort of transition periods that can't be escaped. such as:
waiting rooms. the only time i feel justified to read a magazine and reconnect with popular culture, about which i am usually pathetically uneducated.
car rides. i'll worry about whatever's next as soon as i get there. for now, it's just me and my music and pretending i'm a race car driver. (did i just admit that?)
restaurants. depending on my level of hunger, i think the wait makes the food taste better nearly every time.

i've chosen in life to embrace such transitions rather than hate them as most understandably do. when i actually remember ahead of time that i have an appointment somewhere i sometimes show up early just to sit and wait. there's something about the inescapability of it that calms me down. my brain decides, "i have to be here right now anyways, let's make the best of it." if i was at home wasting time, as i frequently do, i'd feel guilty about the things i really should be doing. but if i have no other choice but to be useless, i welcome it wholeheartedly. i don't know what that says about my character, but instinct tells me it's not good.

however, if it weren't for a waiting room today, i never would have stumbled upon this little mouthwatering gem:
yeah, those spoons are made out of sugar cookies, and i'm pretty sure that just by looking at it, that raspberry sorbet is the best thing i've tasted all day. perhaps i'll get patriotic this year. all thanks to my new friend martha.

by the way, if you want to see something creepy, go to that website and look at the little icon that shows up by the url. really ms? do i want to see your miniscule smiling awkward head right there?

now, back to me being strange. do you ever feel an unbreakable bond with a complete stranger just because you drive the same car? i don't need to ask jessica this question. saturday night she drove all the way to the other side of the roof of the red rock parking garage just so her fj could say hello to its ugly cousin. ugly meaning it didn't have the roof rack. we like the roof rack, makes us look more adventurous. well today i was pulling out of the parking lot at the dentist's office and a fellow volvo was passing by. sure it may have been the newer model and one of the colors my car comes in that i actually like (as opposed to the odd green-silver color my mom picked out for ours), but it was a volvo nonetheless. so, naturally, i waved at the lady driving it. not just a quick friendly acknowledgement, but the obnoxious way i wave to my friends. after doing so, i realized that there's no way i would have done that had she not been rollin in the xc90. i just felt the connection to my kindred soccer mom.

check this euro volvo. so hot. i know for a fact this car is hot because there used to be a billboard by sonic with its picture and the phrase "DONT BE FOOLED BY ITS GOOD LOOKS... IT'S STILL A VOLVO." brilliant marketing on that one, wouldn't you say?

despite how thrilling the aforementioned activities may sound, the real highlight of today so far was a trip to lovely borders with my homegirl leah. now normally i'm more of a barnes & noble type, but when borders sends me multiple emails proclaiming a sale that includes "thousands of items for $5 or less" and books for only a dollar, i have no choice put to put a reminder on my phone for the "fat sale at borders" and make the trip. upon our arrival, we were mildly disappointed to find that the fat sale was confined to one table with limited selection and the only thing really sold for a dollar was still the chocolate bars. but of course, you can never have a bad day in a bookstore. we stocked up. i purchased most of my summer reading list, but left some of them so i will have more excuses to return soon. i have a lot of pages to immerse myself in during the next two months!

i know our coolness is overwhelming. try not to pity yourself too much for not thinking to take an awkward self-timer picture with a basket of fresh literature. the aftermath of this was the two of us crouched behind a shelf laughing uncontrollably because we noticed a teacher from bonanza only one aisle away. i think the flash caught his eye, cause it's not like we were talking extra loud or anything...

on another exciting note, i now have songs on my itunes! and my hard drive arrived today in the mail so i can transfer all my pictures, music, and top secret documents from the family room computer to my laptop. one more excuse to spend too much time on this thing.

as for right now, 90% of my itunes library is made up of the new mat kearney cd. and i have fully embraced that situation. there's really only have one word to describe this new album, and that word is brilliant. i honestly love every song. his voice is magical, always has been.
the man truly can do no wrong in my eyes.

lastly, i want to share a piece of news that amused me. (i previously mentioned i was quite devoid of such popular culture info, so i'm proud of myself for knowing this.) props to tony hawk for skateboarding down a hall in the white house. i don't pretend to be able to so much as put a foot on a skateboard without falling, but that's the reason i can respect the people who are good at it. for example, mr. hawk here. watch that video, you'll fall in love with him. i find the white house situation quite impressive, and i'm amused that apparently some people are super pissed about it. also, it makes it even better that he did it because of a dare. i love people who never really grow up.

wondering how i, a seemingly sheltered trapped-in-the basement sort of girl, stumbled upon this wealth of information? i give my thanks to the fact that i stalk this man, along with others who occasionally write something worth hearing, on twitter. a month ago i had no idea what this strange world was, but after being informed that it's what all the cool kids are doing, i decided to try it out. and it's true, i've become quite... twitterpated. which according to dictionary.com, perfectly describes the way i am "confused by affection or infatuation" in regards to this new outlet of spewing my strange thoughts on others.

what can i say? i have lots of strange thoughts to spew.
